Harbor Links: A Journey to Scotland

News Release by Christian Harrigan

Port Washington,  NY (April 29, 2018):   The NY Long Island Golf Channel Amateur Tour (GCAT) made its way to prestigious Harbor Links for the first official tournament of the 2019 season.   A light steady rain to start the day, cooler than usual temperatures for mid-October, and persistent wind gave the round a Scottish feel. As a result of the tough conditions, scores were on the high side.  Additionally, birdies were tough to come by so those who drained a clutch putt on the right hole were handsomely rewarded.

Here are your top finishers for the first tournament of the 2019 season:

Palmer Flight (4.0 – 7.9):

  • Tri Tran (80) played clutch down the stretch carding birdlie and par to close out the round and prevail by one stroke.  This was Tri’s first golf channel victory. In addition to the Harbor Links Palmer Flight Championship Trophy Tri was awarded a $120 Visa Gift Card.

  • Matthew Bemiss (81) hit a consistent draw that allowed his ball to pierce the strong headwinds at Harbor Links.  Matthew’s 37 on the back 9 helped him prevail in a scorecard playoff over Alex Hur. For second place Matthew was awarded a $60 Visa Gift Card.

Hogan Flight (8.0 – 11.9):

  • Michael DeMarco (81) prevailed at Harbor Links in the ultra-competitive Hogan flight.  Michael’s scorecard was split evenly between pars and bogeys, and he was the only Hogan to avoid a double bogey or worse.  In addition to the Harbor Links Hogan Flight Championship Trophy Michael was awarded a $140 Visa Gift Card.

  • Alex Lundqvist (82) played superbly in stretches, with four instances of consecutive pars or better, including back to back birdies on the 12th and 13th.  For second place in the Hogan Alex was awarded a $70 Visa Gift Card.

  • Alan Navarro (83) had six pars on the front and two birdies on the back 9, now that is a formula for success.  For third Alan was awarded a $40 Visa Gift Card.

  • Kevin Durant (86) prevailed in a match of cards with a back 9 (40) that included consecutive birdies at the 12th and 13th.  Kevin was awarded a $30 Visa Gift Card.

Sarazen Flight (12.0 – 15.9):

  • Bob Ryder (85) blew the doors off of the back 9 with an outstanding two over (38) that included pars in 7 of 9 holes.  Bob’s victory at Harbor Links is his second in just a few events(first win at Port Jefferson CC in July), proving that he has become one of the best players in the Sarazen, especially on tough tracks.  In addition to the Harbor Links Sarazen Flight Championship Trophy Bob was awarded a $130 Visa Gift Card.

  • Joe Giglio (87) had a great four hole stretch from the 12th through 15th holes which included 3 pars and a birdie.  For second place in the Sarazen Joe earned an $80 Visa GIft Card.

  • Robert Scally (88) birdied two par 4s on the front 9 and finished the round par, par.  For third place honors Robert was awarded a $50 Visa Gift Card.

Jones Flight (16.0 – 19.9):

  • Ron Raganella (86) played consistent golf with 8 pars and no score worse than a double bogey.  Who knows how many wins Ron has now, but it is probably in the range of Phil Mickelson’s total.  In addition to the Harbor Links Jones Flight Championship Trophy, Ron was awarded a $140 Visa Gift Card.

  • Michael Mardkha (87) played ridiculously well on the back 9 (38) after a bit of a shaky start.  If Michael can put two 9s together like his back at Harbor Links he is sure to win often. For second place Michael earned a $70 Visa Gift Card.

  • Robert Corrado (88) birdied two holes which added considerably to his winnings.  For third place in the Jones Robert was awarded a $$0 Visa Gift Card.

  • Doron Pergament (89) finished ‘in the money’ in his first tournament as a Jones Flight Player.  For fourth place Doron earned a $30 Visa Gift Card.

Snead Flight (20.0 – Above):

  • Westley Waller (96) dominated the Snead flight competition with seven strokes separating him from his nearest competitor.  In addition to the Harbor Links Snead Flight Championship Trophy Westley was awarded a $100 Visa Gift Card.
